The Gifts of MS: The gifts of … cartoons

May 20th, 2012
Cartoons, teaching the art of saying goodbye.

This week’s Young Justice featured some moving glimpses into the lives of our painted friends.

One character could not come to peace with himself, and was destroying himself by carrying around his attachment to his past.

Two characters had clearly given up “the way it always had been” and were obviously completely happy in their new lives.

Completely different approaches to dealing with “it’s not supposed to be this way” and “we don’t do that any more.”

The costs of not giving up when you need to. The wonders of giving up when you need to, because that created a completely new life. And the special magic of one person who won’t give up on the person they care for.

A twenty-minute cartoon, resonating very much with me right now, as I’m dealing with (or not dealing with, or fighting against) letting go of things that need to be released, whether I want to release them or not.

I’ve often said “life imitates art imitates life,” but “art” hasn’t often taken the form of “cartoons.”

The entire universe has gifts it want to give you… if you’re only willing to accept them.

Dirty Disney cartoons? [video] – Holy Kaw!

May 17th, 2012

It’s hard to imagine Disney cartoons have ever been the subject of censorship, but like many beloved cartoons, there’s a seamier side that’s bound to offend if you get the references.

Such was the case with “The Shindig” where Clarabelle Cow’s exposed udders were deemed too risqué for Ohio audiences as was her reading material; Three Weeks was an early example of “women’s mass market erotic fiction.”

As the old saying goes, “What happens in the barn, stays in the barn.”

Full story at Neatorama.

The evil underbelly of Disney.

Blandiloquent: Cartoons of Hegel

May 14th, 2012
I am thinking the gap
There is no gap

Welcome to the family
Of dominant thought

The most sublime hysteric
Ruined minds of a whole generation

Repulsive charlatan
Trumpeted abroad as immortal wisdom

Serene baritone follows serenest alto

After the aesthetic of the sublime
Art becomes unpleasurable

Molten ingredient parking near paradise
Eating heros and gyros

Hungover bird
In my mouth

In one

You win
The end

We have eyes
Therefore we cannot see

80s_cartoons: any interest in 80s cartoons marathons?

May 14th, 2012
Well, Hulu is an option for many shows, even youtube can be done (though perhaps a friends-locked post to give links would be of aid).

Maybe it’s just me but I think 2-3 a day instead of an all day might go better.

As for chatting, we could take a page form the manga communities, someone starts a discussion post for the series/episode, comments are added/responded to while watching.

As for a series to recommend, so many good choices… How about something a little lower profile like C.O.P.S. ?

Arctic Circle Cartoons · Dodgems Are the Only Ride I Really Like at …

May 11th, 2012

I’m surprised this cartoon went through as is because, now that I think about it, dodgems are called bumper cars in the US, aren’t they?

Anyway, I love the dodgems and pretty much hate all other fairground rides because I don’t like
a. being scared and
b. throwing up.

And can anyone reading name the film they’re watching?

Kendrick Lamar Talks “Cartoons & Cereal”, 2Pac Hologram, Official …

May 8th, 2012

I had a great in depth conversation with Kendrick about how he felt once he saw the Tupac Hologram at Coachella, his official album title, the pressures of being passed the West Coast torch from Snoop Dogg, his creation process and many layers as an artist when it comes to Cartoon & Cereal, Black Hippy, and more. – Yaya Martinez
